Two free downloads for your listening pleasure.

I have spent a long time making tunes of my own that I have to keep locked for a while. In exchange for that, here are two remixes that I put out as free downloads; the first being my remix of Seba - Painted Skies, and the second is a bootleg of Adele’s Rolling in the deep.

Adele - Rolling In The Deep ( Tomek N Bootleg ) by Tomek N

Seba - Painted Sky (Tomek N remix) by Tomek N

Download and listen away. Make sure you link me to the mixes (if any) you guys use them in!

Tom.

Bleh.

Does having a uni degree actually prove anything that a job interview wouldn’t? I can honestly say I haven’t learned much over the last 3 years of uni. LONG.

Uni Blues

Sorry I haven’t been active recently in terms of putting out tunes and doing this blog et cetera. Uni is giving me a right thrashing at the moment, and the bags under my eyes would scare away a panda. Worry not though, I will be getting on the beats soon enough, only about a month of hell left!!!

In the meantime, listen to this:

Amazing vibes as per usual from Swarms. I really like the vibe they are going for at the moment, kind of reminiscent of Helios’s work. Make sure you support them and buy their new album “Old Rave’s End” at http://lodubs.bandcamp.com/album/swarms-old-raves-end

You will not be disappointed.

Regal Records Launch

I would like to introduce you to a brand new label: Regal Records.

Founded by two of my partners in crime; Rob Dimension, and Seb Skankandbass, Regal already has a string of very high quality releases coming up.

Their first release will be Rapture/Wraith by newcomer Nixus whose beats are not to be taken lightly, showing great versatility with this release.

Rapture is a straight up liquid roller which will undoubtedly get a fantastic response on the dancefloor, and has the potential to become a classic. Fat organ bass and soaring vocals with sublime arpegiated synths over the top tickle me in all the right ways.

Nixus - Rapture by Regal Records

On Wraith, Nixus shows his darker side by throwing unhealthy amounts of bass in your face. This low-frequency assault is balanced out with intricate drum programming and subtle atmospherics which create an eerie mood.

Nixus - Wraith by Regal Records

I give this release a well deserved 5/5 gulls.

gully gully gully gully gully

Expect many more upfront dancefloor bangers coming from the Regal camp. I know for a fact they have a very good ear and will never take on poor material. I’m sure Regal will be a very successful project in the future.

Peace.

Esbjorn Svensson Trio

There is no doubt in my mind that the Esbjorn Svensson Trio (E.S.T.) have been the most influential jazz group of our times. Combining many different genres (including drum n bass) into a coherent form is no easy feat, but E.S.T. have proven it is possible in their 15 years of existence (which was ended by Esbjorn Svensson’s untimely death in 2008). Although their recorded material that spanned over 10 albums was fantastic, the trio really shone in a live setting. I have never seen them in person but I have seen many of their recorded concerts and I always find it amazing how well they worked as a unit.

In this amazing performance of their track called Behind the Yashmak they show how much can be accomplished with 3 acoustic instruments. They create soundscapes and evoke moods that are beyond the vast majority of more elaborate and complex recordings. In addition, all the dnb heads should pay close attention to the elaborate drum work.

Their sense of pacing is incredible; there’s a crescendo on the beginning of the track that gives you a taster of what’s to come. It then breaks down to let the track build up progressively into an explosion of sound at around the 6 minute mark, after which we are treated to yet another buildup which leads to an abrupt end to the piece. Mandatory listening.

Tom.

So, this tumblr thing…

Hello guys and girls, I’ve decided to start a tumblr page so I can have a place to share my thoughts, gig diaries, mixes, and last but not least the music that inspires me at any given moment. I am no blogging expert so things might be a bit shaky to begin with, and I have no way of telling how many people will actually be bothered to read my ramblings. It most definitely won’t hurt to have this page here though, so let’s start out with a tune that i’m really really into at the moment: Minstrell & Vly - Prefix

Really feeling this track. It has a very good groove and keeps interest while still keeping everything stripped back. Big drums o’clock with wicked visuals to boot.

Peace out, Tom.
