Burning EP

Hey hey everyone. I’ve released a 4 track EP of some of my tunes a while back. I thought I’d give it a bit of backstory on here! If you want to read my massive rant, go right on to the “Read more” link.

This EP is a collection of tracks that i’ve made in 2010, most of which were meant to come out on a certain record label which i shall not name (can’t be arsed with drama, and some of you can probably guess anyway) [EDIT: Fuck it, it rhymes with Mud Plate]. While I don’t really have a grudge against the founder of said label, there have been some things which went fundamentally wrong.

As a record label, you shouldn’t make false statements that make you look “big in the game” just so artists will trust you with their music. Eventually people will catch on to your bullshit and everything will go pear-shaped very very quickly.

“I’ve met Netsky 5 times”

and

“I’ve got backstage passes to Hospitality to do an interview with Camo”

promptly followed by a no-show are some fine examples of this sort of thing.

Also, don’t squirm out of admitting you have no idea what you are doing. Telling the artist you will release the tracks in 3 weeks whilst your label doesn’t even have a distribution deal is laughable. Admittedly i should have just told the guy to piss off after the first couple of delays but at that point I myself was ignorant to the workings of the music business and thought this sort of thing is normal.

Last but not least: don’t piss off YouTube promotors to the point where they don’t upload your tracks, and don’t get your own channel banned for copyright infractions. Unless you have some big cheese contacts in the industry, YouTube promotion is the only way to get your stuff heard by the masses these days. Being an absolute knob to them doesn’t help.

Anyways, excuse my rant. Maybe some budding label owners who live at their mums house…. sorry “CEOs”  will read this and learn a lesson or two.
